Toenail Fungus is one of the hardest infections to get rid of. It can take up to a year to clear the infection completely. Toenail fungus for the most part is harmless, but because it causes dramatic changes in appearance of the toenails the psychological aspect is very damaging for sufferers.

There are many risk factors for toenail fungus. Diabetes, poor circulation to the legs and feet, males over 40, athletes, chronic exposure to moist damp areas and lower immune system. If you have a condition that lowers your immune system or circulation, you need to be extra cautious with your feet and toes.

Toenail fungus lives in warm, moist and dark areas. If you are frequently exposed to work boots, public showers or restrooms and pools, then you are also at higher risk for this condition. It is important to also know that the fungus that causes toenail fungus can also cause athlete’s foot. Sometimes they are both acquired together, but not often.
